Her video is the large picture. Your camera sits as a smaller preview so you can check framing and light. If that preview is black, the camera is off, covered, or the browser has not been allowed to use it.
The first time, the app asks for camera and microphone, then the browser asks again. Both are needed for video. Audio-only matching needs the microphone only. Mid-chat, the ••• menu can mute the microphone or turn the camera off — there is no separate lens-switch or quality slider to look for.
Before you appear on camera
- Look behind you. Mail, ID, a street sign in the window or a name on a screen can travel with the picture.
- Light your face. Sit toward a window or lamp. A dark room makes the preview harder to read on both sides.
- Close other camera apps. On a computer, a meeting tool can hold the webcam so the browser cannot open it.
- After you finish. Ending the chat stops this session. To stop the site using the camera later, revoke access in the browser for 1on1chat.video.
